Island Pilot 440 Details

IP_High_613pix02

IP440_ProfileONLY_155PIX_120315

The 2013 IP440 merges the styling from the new IP535 with the proven performance and livable spaces of the IP435.  In addition to the 1 stateroom/1 head & 1.5 stateroom/1.5 head versions (identical layouts to the IP435s), is the new 2 stateroom (each with queen berth)/2 head version. ALL the 2013 IP440s will have the aft cockpit settee, the L stair to the bridge and radar arch. CLICK HERE FOR IP440 PLANS.

A Fresh ApproachIP435_2SR_Plans_155pix_120312

The design team at Island Pilot took a different approach to creating a modern, efficient, fast trawler. There’s more to maximizing performance than getting every last ounce of speed out of a boat (although a top speed over 34 knots is nothing to sneeze at) - performance can be measured in many other ways than miles per hour (or even knots). It can be measured in fuel efficiency, liveability, quiet operation, style and perhaps most importantly - value! How much Bang for the Buck you’re actually getting!

Island Pilot LLC wanted to deliver a price/performance ratio unequaled in this class and size of fast trawler. This was effected in several ways:

  • GalleyUp_120312Creating three interior layouts: a single stateroom version with eat-in galley (down) and a one & a half stateroom version with convertible study, galley up and one & a half heads, and NEW for 2013, a true two-stateroom version, each SR with queen berth, each head with stall shower (see IP440 Plans PDF for new layout).
  • Designing two good helm stations - the one in the interior is the primary steering station with good sight lines in all directions plus a “sport bridge” with seating for six
  • Putting the motors aft under the cockpit outside the accommodation - noise is minimized while access is maximized
  • Watching weight closely - note that the flybridge is integral with the super structure; this saves weight while adding strength
  • Including EVERYTHING as standard that most owners want in a cruising boat - this includes 2 sets of full electronics, generator & air, washer/dryer, entertainment center - even the hard bottom inflatable, crane & motor are standard!

Let’s look at the Interior

Master420pix02
The Master Stateroom is identical for ALL 3 layouts and is fitted with an Island Queen berth. Two hanging lockers, drawers under and lockers alongside the berth plus bins create generous storage for extended periods of time on board. There’s a standard 17” 16:9 LED HDTV w/DirecTV HD receiver. The 1.5 SR has an ensuite 1/2 head, the 2 SR, a full head with stall shower.

Single Stateroom Galley Down

Galley_08_300pix02The Eat-In Galley (Single Stateroom version) has everything the gourmet chef could ask for - radiant cooktop, GE Profile Advantium microwave/speed-cook oven/hood (with exhaust) and the latest refrigerator/freezer from Japan. Plus there’s plenty of counter space (under the counter to port is the standard washer/dryer.) Above the washer/dryer is a 15” LED HDTV. The Galley is open up to the windscreen making it exceptionally light and airy and easy to communicate with those in the Deck House. The Dinette is perfect for breakfast or lunch and lowers to make a berth perfect for the grand kids.

Fabulous Fridge

HitachiFridge02More about the Refrigerator: This 14+ cubic foot unit has a top refrigerator with opening door (7.6 cu.ft.), a vegetable crisper drawer beneath it (3.4 cu.ft.), then an ice cube drawer (.5 cu.ft.) and soft-freezer drawer (.8 cu.ft.) side-by-side and the deep freezer drawer (2.4 cu.ft.) on the bottom. This is an extremely efficient design - on a typical refrigerator, each time you open and close a door, the cold air spills out and is replaced by room-temperature air that now needs cooling down. A drawer, on the other hand, does NOT loose any cool air upon opening and closing.  Average current use is 33 Watts! That calculates to about 75 12 VDC Amp Hours including the allowance for inverter loss.

Pantry with Freezer & Storage (1.5 SR & 2 SR Versions)

VitrifrigoFreezer03Since we could not find the equivalent in an under-counter refrigerator/freezer for the 1.5 & 2 Stateroom versions, we have chosen the Vitrifrigo refrigerator & freezer (with ice maker) drawers. The Stainless Steel drawer fridge is in the galley under the cooktop - the freezer on the accommodation level in the pantry forward (1.5 SR version) and opposite the stairs under the Combo washer/dryer in the 2 SR version).

Roomy Head(s) with Stall Shower

Head02In the 1 SR & 1.5 SR versions, the head is to port - complete with Vacuflush toilet and stall shower with molded-in seat and bi-fold door. The sink is molded into the solid countertop. There are multiple lockers. The 1.5 SR version has an additional half-head in the master.

In the NEW 2 SR version, there is the guest head w/stall shower AND a full head with stall shower opening into the master.

Study Converts to Double Cabin (1.5 SR Version)

Study02Guest/Study in the 1.5 Stateroom version - The 1.5 SR version opts for a study open to the passage way (replacing the galley-down of the 1 SR version). This cabin is fitted with an L-shaped settee (that converts to a double berth), hanging locker & storage, PLUS a secretary wall unit with built-in TV and a fold-down desk top for computer work. At night, the pocketing wall pulls out and a swinging door closes the guest off for privacy.

Spacious Deckhouse in the Single Stateroom Version

DeckHouse_1SR_300pix02A few steps lead up to the Deck House. The high backed helm and navigator seats are fixed in place, facing forward, for underway in open water or they can be lowered and swiveled to face in towards the settee, becoming part of the conversation/TV viewing area. A pair of teak hassocks are perfect to use as foot stools when lounging in the helm chairs or to use to seat extra dinner guests - they also have storage space inside. The built-in L-shaped settee makes into a comfortable extra-long double berth. Two slider doors lead onto the the side decks, port and starboard, and an oversized slider leads onto the aft deck.

Deckhouse in the 1.5 SR Version

Deckhouse_2SR_120312The 1.5 Stateroom deckhouse has both helm chairs to starboard, side-by-side with a galley to port. The Vitrifrigo refrigerator drawers are under the cooktop, the GE Profile Advantium oven, under the helm chairs. Aft of the galley is a love seat - fold up the cushion and the 26” LED HDTV is revealed in the perfect watching position. The Bose home theater and DirecTV HD receiver/DVR are under the seat. The settee to port is essentially the same as on the 1SR version - the dining table is on a fixed high/low pedestal and forms a portion of the berth flat or becomes a drop-leaf coffee table.

Deckhouse in the 2 SR Version

IP440_2SR_Plan_300PIX_120315The 2 Stateroom deckhouse has both helm chairs to starboard, on high/low swivel pedestals with a U-settee behind and love seat opposite to port. The galley is 2 steps down to port, still a part of the social scene and in the “Atrium” under the expansive glass windscreen. The 2-drawer refrigerator is under the counter, the 2-drawer freezer with ice maker is two steps down, just across from the bottom of the stairs. CLICK HERE FOR PLANS.

Instrument Cluster (all 3 versions)

IP435_30_LowerHelmThe Instrument Console to starboard is sized to perfectly house the standard cluster of electronics - ALL Garmin Electronics including 15” Touch screen Plotter w/HD Radar & XM Weather, Auto Pilot and AIS VHF w/Wireless Mic! Just below the plotter is the 7” Volvo Engine Instruments (which also can be shown in a window on the plotter).

As an added benefit, below the deck house is a vast, easily accessed storage area (the area most yachts are using for their motors). You can keep all sorts of stores, off-season clothing, spares and more down here! The 1.5 SR version has the washer/dryer here - the 1 SR & 2 SR  can have it here or in the galley to port (1 SR) or over the freezer (2 SR).

KVH Satellite TV, 26” LED HDTV, DirecTV HD Receiver w/DVR & a Bose 3.2.1 GS Home Theater!

It’s not all about boating. There are times when it’s nice to laze about, put your feet up, and catch a good movie as your Island Pilot sways at anchor in a secluded cove in the islands. We haven’t forgotten you. In

EntertainmentCenter_1SR02
the deckhouse of the single stateroom version (above) is an Entertainment Center like no other you’ve come across in this size cruising yacht. Pocketing doors hide the standard 26”  LCD HDTV and Bose 3.2.1 GS Home Theater System. This includes a  CD & DVD Player with a sound system that’ll fill up the deck house with your favorite music. Under the TV is the DirecTV HD receiver w/DVR and the gyro stabilized KVH HD7 TV Antenna control. With your DirecTV account, you’ll have access to HBO, Showtime, and dozens of commercial-free music channels. Bracketing the TV is a pair (only one on the 1.5 SR version) of cupboards with wine racks and glass storage, and behind the TV is a top-loading liquor locker. Aft is the custom AC/DC Electrical Distribution Panel.

EntertainmentCenter_2SR_UP03

EntertainmentCenter_2SR02
The entertainment center in the 1.5 SR version (above) is hidden under the love seat in essentially the same viewing position as that of the single stateroom. Just fold up the seat to reveal the 26” TV hidden beneath. NOTE: The TV in the 2 SR version is just aft of the cook top and mounted on a lift angled perfectly to give everyone a good view - the entertainment center and receivers are installed under the love seat, similar to the 1.5 SR pictured above.

Great spaces outside, too

Cockpit02
Safety and Convenience are evident in the exterior of the Island Pilot 435 - high lifelines surround the entire deck - wide side decks lead up to the foredeck - doors port and starboard open into the deck house. These are all features not often found on fast trawlers; and if they are, never all on the same boat! NOTE: The 2013 IP440s (ALL versions) will have higher bulwarks P&S plus a built-in settee aft and L stairs to the bridge.

New Swim Platform and Wet Bar

CockpitSwimplatform02
The Aft Cockpit is 8’ long by over 12’ wide and is sheltered by a fiberglass cover. There’s room for deck chairs and a table for al fresco dining. A recessed step gives access to the integral swim/boarding platform. Hatches in the deck open into the engine compartment. There are a pair hatches opening into the lazarettes, port & starboard. There is now a 3rd Joystick in the aft cockpit. NOTE: In the 2013 IP440s, there will NOT be a wet bar in the cockpit - instead is an L stair to the bridge.

High Railings on Foredeck

Foredeck02
The huge Foredeck is perfect for cocktail cruises and sunbathing. The low-profile trunk cabin does not interfere with walkways and leaves plenty of room for line and anchor handling. There is a manhole in the foredeck leading into the chain locker.

Sport Bridge

Bridge02
Perhaps the best spot outside is the Island Pilot’s Flybridge. A pair of contoured bucket seats face forward and there is a 66” long bench aft. The console has plenty of room for the Garmin 15” touchscreen, the Simrad AP26 auto pilot. electronic engine controls, joystick and EVC instrumentation - ALL OF WHICH ARE STANDARD! The Bimini is standard equipment. NOTE: The 2013 IP440s will have a Radar Arch & Crane replacing the off-set folding mast and boom.
